Tampa Bay Rays Season Preview

2012: 90-72 3rd in AL East

The Rays continue to be the perfect model of how a sports organization should be run. Tampa Bay has been consistently competitive in the toughest division with a low budget. This year the AL East is tougher than ever, and they Rays will be right in the middle of it all.

Led by 2012 AL Cy Young winner David Price, the Rays starting rotation could prove to be one of the best in the league. Jeremy Hellickson is very good, and Matt Moore has the potential to be one of the best pitchers in the league. Their rotation will put them into a position to win a lot of games, but their lineup is somewhat of a question. They lost BJ Upton and Carlos Pena, however, the Rays have never been an offensive team. In fact last year they scored the fewest runs in the AL East and still managed to win 90 games.

If the Rays can pick up a bat or two before the end of the regular season, that will expedite their chances of making the playoffs.

Prediction88-74 2nd in AL East

Toronto is clearly the team to beat in the AL East, but the Orioles and the Rays will fight down the stretch for a potential wild card spot. It will come down to who is more clutch, and I think Evan Longoria will find a way to lead his team back to the playoffs.
